Charlie Rangel Begs to Disagree With the Premise
Here’s Charlie Rangel responding, after a fashion, to a question from Jeremy Peters of The New York Times about those four apartments he occupies at below-market rates.

Who is the women who loudly says "OH HELL NO" during the interview?
The way Rangel nonchalantly dismisses this as nothing important shows how out-of-touch he is with reality.
The man makes over $100K a year plus other questionable income.
He has not ONE but FOUR rent subsided apartments and sees nothing wrong with this?
I live in his district and make $30K and struggle to pay my bills and do not have even ONE rent subsidized apartment.
How is that right?
He is toast and should be. I would imagine if his gal Hil won the nomination the NYT would never have printed this story.
He's a BUM, just like the rest of them. From City Hall to City Council to Albany to the US Congress. This is why this country has all the problems it has, NO leadership, NO moral authority. These BUMS just care for what's in it for them. If you shake any of these BUMS hands they are as smooth as a baby's behind. These BUMS haven't worked a day in their lives and they never will.
What the NYTimes and Most people don't realize is that like Rangel, there are 10s of thousands of people in Manhattan who have rent controlled apts and make $100s of thousands of dollars a year - I know of a famous composer - and have second and 3rd homes outside the City or in the country and use the apts for part of the year but claim residency and setup corporations to hide their income.
This is a disgrace as hard working people without the resources have to struggle and are constantly questioned about their needs for affordable housing and do not have the means to challenge the unscrupulous practices of these investors who have bought up most of the housing in the City - Thanks to the policies of Bloomberg and the other crooks who control CIty and State agencies.
In Massachusetts the voters tossed out rent control several years ago(I never thought it would happen in such a blue state)
We also had many pols and even a State Supreme Court Justice in a rent controlled apartment.
I am not a constitutional lawyer but I thought the government could not take your property ($$$s are property) without compensation.
Any legal beagles care to comment?
Speaker of the City Council Christine Quinn lives in a rent stabilized apartment. It is funny how many good people Speaker Quinn has fired from the City Council, yet she has turned the City Council into a criminal enterprise with her slush fund scandal. Beast Quinn makes over $140,000 a year and she lives in a taxpayer subsidized apartment. What a POS she is!!
Charlie's b.s. is outrageous. I also agree with Nasty Popa above that Quinn, Paterson and other well-to-do polls shouldn't be getting a rent controlled apartment. In general, the pols are scraping the cream off the top for themselves and leaving the crumbs for everyone else.
Well, if the apts. are renting for more than $2-g per month, are the pols paying rent at the luxury decontrol rate? If so, then, generally, where is the scandal? As to the 4 rent stabilzed apartments, that could be an issue-esp.if it emerges that the 4 apartments each rent at less than $2,000 per month and that the Congress Member is thus bypassing luxury decontrol for one or more of these apartments. The other point is that it appears that one of the apartments has been used for a non-residential office, with the Congress Member apparently paying the same rent as he would for a rent stabilized apartment. That certain warrants review.
Hello!
Hey, listen to the tape, the man will quit tomorrow if you can show that he's been given a gift. Listen to the snotty little simpering voices of the NY Times reporters. They're a bunch of school kids out of control. What's with the City Desk? Schools out?
What do you Democrats expect? Very few of the Democrat congressmen have any business experience. Their salaries come from government work. Once they are in power, they use their position to rip off the system. How many of you Democrats represented by Charlie drive a Caddy like he does that is paid for by guess who? You, and the rest of us who pay taxes. It's easy to get the perks since congressmen pass the laws that allow it. Hey, has Hillary paid off the 10 million owed to vendors who provided primary services for her? Of course not, she is waiting for Obama to come up with the money so she and Bill don't have to dip into the 110 million they have made since leaving the White House. In the meantime, the heck with the little guy vendors. In Florida we have that illustrious Robert Wexler who resides in his home with his family in Maryland, and represents the people of West Palm. He claims Florida as his residency because Florida has no state income tax and thus does not have to pay Maryland income taxes. Quit listening to these people who keep telling you the oil companies, big pharma and rich Republicans are ripping you off. Take a look at the high life you are providing for your representatives. They care only for their power and privileges. If you are struggling financially, have no gas or money for groceries, put some heat on the dead beats in congress whose policies have left you and me broke and wondering if we are going to make it!
